poetry news

Just a few flechettes of news. Firstly, I've got three poems in this month's issue of Nth Position, so check that out. The poet listed below me is Kathryn Simmonds, and she comes highly recommended too. I bought her pamphlet, Snug, for my girlfriend a couple of Christmases ago. It was by far the most impressive collection of new poetry on a shelf in Ottakar's I spent over an hour browsing.

Secondly, Shortfuse, which we're reviewing in the upcoming issue, is on this Thursday, and features Guy Jackson, an American storyteller poet. I've got a CD of his sitting right in front of me, entitled 'The Filthy Pilgrim'. Saw him at the Brick Lane festival, and he was a vigorous, ebullient and funny performer. So that's recommended too. It's at the Camden Head pub, Camden Walk, Islington, doors at 7.30pm. Entry is £5, concessions £3.

Also, if anyone has £1.50 to spare (come on!) the new Fuselit issue can be ordered online. It's pocket-sized, packed with poetry and a little art, all inspired by the word 'Adore'. The cover features William Wordsworth felled with arrows.

More news to come once November ends and I am released from the stranglehold of NaNoWriMo to be industrious elsewhere!

Insomnobabble

Went to see this neat little show at the BAC last night - and enjoyed it very much. Went with a friend who had seen it in Edinburgh and thought it was 'the best directed thing he'd ever seen.' It certainly was finely calibrated - lots of frenetic character changing, running around, but not too chaotic. It was also very funny.

Would definitely suggest people trying to get to anything Big Wow puts on in the future.
